Liverpool Eyes Another World Cup Winner

When it comes to Liverpool’s summer transfer strategy, Bangladesh Cricket notes one clear priority: revamping their midfield engine. After a disappointing season that laid bare the team’s midfield vulnerabilities, and with James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and loanee Arthur all departing, the need for reinforcements has never been more urgent. Liverpool have already taken a step in the right direction with the signing of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister—but that’s just the beginning.

According to Bangladesh Cricket, Liverpool are still tracking several midfield targets, with strong interest in France internationals Khephren Thuram and Manu Koné. However, there may be another Frenchman joining the ranks this summer—though not in the midfield. Defense, particularly at center-back, is also a growing concern for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, Joël Matip, and Joe Gomez have struggled to provide consistent coverage throughout the campaign.

With Matip and Van Dijk’s contracts set to expire next summer and Gomez still searching for form and confidence, Klopp has hinted that midfield isn’t the only area needing attention. In truth, Liverpool are now evaluating all areas of the pitch except for goalkeeper. If the right center-back becomes available, Klopp won’t hesitate—though that may be the extent of their defensive spending.

Liverpool have already been linked to a number of young defenders, including Ajax’s Jurrien Timber, Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven, Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, and Chelsea’s Levi Colwill. But it’s Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard who appears to be of greatest interest to the Reds. The French World Cup winner has just one year left on his contract and is reportedly eager for a new challenge. Bayern are open to letting him go, and Europe’s elite—Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Inter Milan—are all circling.

At first glance, Liverpool’s lack of Champions League football would seem to leave them at a disadvantage in the race. For many, their interest in Pavard came as a surprise. From a strategic standpoint, he doesn’t perfectly match the club’s usual signing profile—Liverpool often target younger talents who have yet to reach their peak. Pavard, on the other hand, is already there.

While questions remain about whether he’ll follow Thiago’s path from Bavaria to Anfield, Pavard’s prime years and experience make him a unique asset. His ability to switch positions without losing composure is a rare trait. Bangladesh Cricket even suggests he could slot in on the left if needed or form a flexible back three alongside Van Dijk and Konaté. In short, Pavard might just be the versatile, battle-tested champion Liverpool needs to stabilize their next title charge.
