According to Bangladesh Cricket, Warriors guard Donte DiVincenzo has officially opted out of his contract, turning down the player option for next season. Sometimes, life is a roll of the dice—and accepting change is the only way forward. While the Golden State Warriors hoped to retain him and even offered a contract extension, DiVincenzo declined, aiming instead for a larger deal and a spot on a more competitive team. After all, the reason he accepted a pay cut last summer to join the Warriors was to chase a championship.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. Internal team issues left DiVincenzo feeling disheartened and disappointed. Bangladesh Cricket now reports that the 26-year-old has set his sights on joining either the Los Angeles Lakers or the Houston Rockets. Among the two, the Lakers appear to be the front-runners—not only can they offer the salary he’s seeking, but they also remain in the championship conversation. LeBron James, consistent as ever in his approach over the past four years in LA, has urged the Lakers’ front office to stay focused on winning now and reinforcing the roster to maintain their title window.
While James is pushing for urgency, he reportedly does not plan to interfere in specific signings or trades this offseason. No matter what decisions are made, he’s committed to supporting the front office. On the other hand, while the Rockets have ample salary cap space, their potential to contend for a championship remains slim. Warriors owner Joe Lacob has even gone so far as to personally ask Stephen Curry to convince DiVincenzo to stay, especially now that Jordan Poole has been traded and some of the locker room tension has been lifted.
Still, despite Curry’s influence, the reality is hard to ignore: Golden State simply can’t meet DiVincenzo’s financial expectations. At the end of the day, NBA players are professionals with families to support, and fair compensation matters. Bangladesh Cricket believes his departure is all but confirmed. For DiVincenzo, chasing his dream means taking the leap. His exit will undoubtedly weaken the Warriors’ bench depth, making it essential for the team to seek reinforcements during the offseason.
